Birmingham’s biggest art festival is back! With over 160 performancers, 600+ artists and 26 new commissions over three days, get ready for a city jam-packed full of colour, dance, art and music from 22-24 September.
Here’s a round-up of what to expect from this year’s Birmingham Weekender in the city centre.
Birmingham Royal Ballet in Bullring (Saturday 23rd – 1pm, 2:15pm & 3pm)
While you’re out shopping, keep your eyes peeled for Birmingham Royal Ballet who will be bringing world-class ballet to the Bullring with three performances, including their popular & iconic production from The Nutcracker. Over the weekend, the company will also be leading a ballet flashmob, including dancers from local dance schools and the community.
Rangeeli Colours of Birmingham parade (Saturday 23rd – 11am)
Bringing the streets of Birmingham alive, Colours of Birmingham parade will explore, celebrate and share the heritage of the city with a South Asian twist. The parade promises to be full-energy, vibrant and exciting as it makes its way through New Street to Victoria Square.
Clash of Drums (Saturday 23rd – 8:30pm)
For a night-time feast of sound and spectacular fireworks, Birmingham Hippodrome presents Clash of Drums, which will take place at Eastside Green and promises to be an unforgettable evening of sound, fireworks and performance. If you fancy a little taster of what to expect, head over to Selfridges on Friday 22nd at 7:30pm for a preview.
Culture Catwalk (Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th – 11am-5pm)
A catwalk with a twist! Find Culture Catwalk outside the Bullring showcasing the finest creative talent and diversity in the city. Local artists will take the red carpet to sing, dance, glide, slide and perform. It will be a true celebration of what makes us Brummies.
Macaroon Painting at Miss Macaroon (Friday 22nd-Sunday 24th)
Love eating macaroons? How about painting them? Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and join Miss Macaroon for a weekend of macaroon painting in Great Western Arcade. Let your creative juices flow with a glass of bubbly while you enjoy some free painting. Booking is recommended.
City Social at The Mailbox Underpass (Friday 22nd-Sunday 24th)
Discover The Mailbox underpass like you’ve never seen it before with live entertainment, local street food and drink offers and much more across the weekend. Follow @CitySocialBham for more details!
Monski Mouse’s Baby Disco Dance Hall (Saturday 23rd – 11am)
Perfect for the little ones, join DJ Monski Mouse and her dancers for a morning of fun at Town Hall. There will be plenty of high energy and smiles as you dance away to all genres of music from swing to rock.
Modern Warrior (Sunday 24th – 2pm & 4pm)
Join the Mods or the Trads as they battle it out in a fast-paced street take over where King Fu meets dance. With exciting and dramatic sequences, watch the two opposing groups move across the city and meet in an epic stand-off. You can get the chance to join in and become part of the action.
