The department manager of Slater Menswear in Birmingham is celebrating an incredible 25 years of helping customers to look their best for everything from weddings and proms to business events.
Kam celebrated his quarter of a century at the award-winning Cannon Street store with a visit from Managing Director Paul Slater, the son of the company’s founder, who congratulated him on his long and successful career with Slater Menswear.
Since opening its doors in the city in 1996 Slater Menswear has welcomed thousands of customers and become a mainstay of families’ celebrations and special events.
Renowned for its free alterations service and formal suit hire the store stocks suits, blazers, trousers, shoes, accessories, casualwear and made to measure Highland wear.
Kam is used to helping customers find their ideal fit and style from brands including Ted Baker and Aquascutum, Magee, Meyer, Barbour and Under Armour.
“People often ask me how it feels to have been with Slater Menswear for this period of time and the honest answer is there’s an element of pride involved,” he says.
“I wouldn’t even know where to start when thinking about how many wedding parties and longstanding loyal customers I’ve served over the years. I’d like to thank them all for their past and continued custom.”
Kam has seen dramatic changes in the High Street over his time in retail. He believes Slater’s success is down to sticking to its original aim of providing quality, choice and a high level of customer service.
“The company has been very good to me through both the good times and more so during the bad, particularly the last 18 months or so, which I have been extremely grateful for,” he adds.
So what’s the secret of his success in retail?
“I think it’s to be a good listener. Listen to your customers’ needs, listen to your customers’ requests and most importantly be honest,” Kam explains.
“If something doesn’t fit I say so. I’m a massive fan of repeat business and by applying the above you get that.
“Finally on a personal note, with the continued support of Slater directors, staff, my wife and four daughters – here’s to the next 25 years!”
