The newest ice cream craze has arrived at Selfridges Birmingham – and it’s sure to be a smash for lovers of sweet treats.
Pan N Ice is a delicious freeze-fried dessert that combines frozen yoghurt or vanilla ice cream with an array of toppings and a sauce. But unlike standard ice cream desserts, the Pan N Ice team uses frozen metal plates and spatulas to smash, cajole and scrape the ingredients to create pancake-thin rolls.
It’s the brainchild of Henry Milroy and Rob Huysinga, who discovered this new way of creating ice cream in 2015 when they were in Thailand as part of a tour of South East Asia.
“We knew straight away that we wanted to bring this back to the UK and from what started as a small outdoor catering business attending markets and events, has now grown hugely,” said Henry. “We’re on a mission to make the biggest ice cream and froyo brand in the world and we are thrilled to bring our concept to Birmingham.”
Pan N Ice is now in three Selfridges stores, in two further outlets in London and it has just begun its international expansion plan with a pop-up shop on Fifth Avenue, New York.
Ice cream lovers can choose from three awesome combinations: Mess that was Eton (strawberries, raspberries and meringue); You Know You Want It (Oreo, chocolate flake and Nutella); and Kinky Kinder (Kinder Bueno, Ferrero Rocher, salted caramel).
Sam Watts, general manager of Selfridges Birmingham, said: “We are excited to be the first to bring Pan N Ice to Birmingham because it’s a really fun take on the usual ice cream treats on the market. I’ve no doubt it will be a fantastic addition to our food hall.”
