- Outstanding Customer Service (Independent Retailer) – Loki Wine, Great Western Arcade
- Outstanding Customer Service (Major Retailer) – House of Fraser, Corporation Street
The awards, sponsored by the National Skills Academy for Retail at Solihull College recognised retailers and individuals working in Birmingham city centre for excellence in customer service, team work, emerging talent and leading in industry standards.
Over 500 votes were received from the public and the top five winners were chosen by a panel of industry and media experts including Jonathan Cheetham Chair of Retail Birmingham; Shaun Hindle Director of Employment and Skills, National Skills Academy; Stacey Barnfield Editor of the Birmingham Post and Assistant Director of Employment at Birmingham City Council, Shilpi Akbar.
All the winners received a surprise visit in-store from ITV’s This Morning presenter Alison Hammond, where they were presented with their award trophy.
In addition to the category winners over 100 retail staff were recognised at a breakfast ceremony held at Malmaison at The Mailbox.
Jonathan Cheetham, Chair of Retail Birmingham, said: “We had a terrific response from city centre shoppers, who voted for individuals and businesses that demonstrated outstanding
customer service. It was a very difficult task for the judges to pick the overall winners as the standards were so high and we felt all of the nominated individuals from both large and small retailers were worthy of having their achievements recognised.’
