Motown The Musical will be the first ever show at The Alexandra following the venue’s £650K revamp

West End hit Motown The Musical will be the first ever show at The Alexandra following the venue’s £650K revamp.

The hit production, which is opening its first ever UK and Ireland Tour at the Station Street venue, will be the opening show after the extensive refurbishment which will see a brand new façade with digital signage.

This follows a complete facelift of the theatre’s historic Grand Circle, with all seats and carpets replaced. Improvements to the bar in the Old Foyer also started last week with the aim of improving both decoration and speed of service for customers. A revamp of all dressing rooms back of house to improve the experience of visiting productions is currently in progress, and even work maintaining the venues historic chandelier is also scheduled.

The venue’s brand new logo has also been revealed today.

Motown The Musical runs from Thursday 11 October until Saturday 3 November 2018. With music and lyrics from the Motown catalogue and book by Motown founder Berry Gordy, Charles Randolph-Wright’s production features a live orchestra playing 50 Motown tracks including Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, I’ll Be There, Dancing In The Street, Stop! In The Name Of Love, My Girl and I Heard It through the Grapevine and tells the story behind the classic hits.

The show tells the extraordinary story of Motown founder Berry Gordy, who with just With just $800 borrowed from his family,  goes from featherweight boxer to heavyweight music mogul, discovering and launching the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and many more.  Motown the Musical uncovers the true story of the legendary record label that changed music history and created the soundtrack of a generation.
