Keeping the kids entertained over the school holidays can be quite the challenge.
However, there’s plenty of activities and events taking place in the city centre that are sure to keep them happy.
You can enjoy hunting down dinosaurs with the kids, see Dippy at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, watch Matilda the Musical at the Hippodrome and much more!

Dippy the Diplodocus at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery
If you haven’t already, you must plan a visit to see Dippy the Dinosaur.
The impressive 21 metre long skeleton cast of a Diplodocus from the Natural History Museum in London is on a UK tour and it’s here in Birmingham until 9th September!
It’s a extremely popular exhibition and great for all the family.
You can book your tickets in advance here, however there will be some allocated walk-ins slots available on the day.
The Big in the City Dino Trail
It’s time to go on a dinosaur hunt!
Spot the mighty T-rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops and many more around the city centre as part of the Big In The City Dino Trail.
There is also a competition to win £500 shopping vouchers to spend in the city centre. All you have to do is take a selfie with all ten of our topiary dinosaurs, tag @ShoppinginBham on Instagram and use the hashtag #DippyOnTour to be entered. See full T&C’s here
Dino Discovery Day at John Lewis
If you couldn’t get enough of Dippy and the Dino Trail, John Lewis are hosting two Dino Discovery Days for the kids over the school holidays.
Join them in store on 4th and 25th August for face painting, storytelling with Roxie the T-Rex, crafts and a unique dino hunt around the store.
All children will receive a free dino gift to take home.
There will be three time slots each day – 10.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm.
Tickets are £5 and can be bought from the Childrenswear till on Level 4. Places are limited and admission is by ticket only.
Matilda the Musical at Birmingham Hippdrome
Matilda the Musical has landed at Birmingham Hippodrome as part of its first UK tour this summer! Based on the iconic Ronald Dahl tale, Matilda the Musical follows a young girl who is insanely intelligent who is unfortunately part of a family that discourages her love for books and learning instead of favouring TV and selling used cars like the rest of them. She starts school and meets sweetheart Miss Honey who allows her to be who she wants, pushes her to achieve and lets her imagination run free. However, life isn’t all rosy when she meets headteacher Miss Trunchball.
This musical is perfect for all the family.

Bing Live! at Town Hall
The CBeebies favourite show has been brought to life in a brand new stage production Bing Live! and it will be at the Town Hall for the first time ever.
Bring the kids along for an afternoon of fun, laughter, music and magical pupperty with all their favourite characters.
There will be Bing, Sula, Coco and Pando learning how to tell stories by pretending, dressing-up and singing songs. Flop and Amma are there to help, but in this magical world of make-believe things don’t always go according to plan…

Incredibles 2 at Odeon cinema
Everyone’s favourite superhero family is back!
Incredibles 2 is showing at Odeon Cinema and this time, Helen aka Elastigirl is in the spotlight, leaving Bob, Mr Incredible at home with Violet and Dash to tackle the day-to-day heroics of ‘normal’ life. It’s only when a new villain hatches a dangerous plot that the family and Frozone must find a way to work together again.
