Start your Christmas shopping right – our top places for lunch

There’s nothing better than taking a break from Christmas shopping and indulging in a delicious lunch. With a range of irresistible restaurants and cafes in the city, here are some of our favourite places to grab a bite to eat.

Bistro 1847, Great Western Arcade, Colmore Row

1847 is a beautiful contemporary vegetarian restaurant located on the doorstep of the shopping district.  Indulge in a range of dishes, including spicy potato cake served with walnut pesto or try the mac and cheese with blue cheese sauce, salt baked turnips and crispy breadcrumbs. If you can’t choose, go for the ‘Grazing, Sharing and Exploring’ menu where you can sample a range of smaller dishes. If there’s still room, we recommend the earl grey cake for dessert.

Jamie’s Italian, Bullring

With amazing views of Selfridges and St Martin’s church, Jamie’s Italian is the perfect place to enjoy a drink and nibbles with family or friends. Soak up the vibrant atmosphere and indulge in the festive menu, which includes a three-course meal and a glass of prosecco. Or simply stop by and enjoy the antipasti range or a delicious rustic pizza.

Pho, Grand Central

Overlooking Grand Central, Pho is the ideal place to stop for a quick and tasty bite to eat! There’s a variety of authentic Vietnamese street food to tickle your taste buds, including fragrant curries and 15 freshly made pho noodle soups. If you fancy something a little lighter, Pho also serves a variety of tasty salads.

Gas Street Social, Mailbox

If you’re looking for the ultimate place to get into the Christmas spirit, Gas Street Social’s elves have been transforming the restaurant and cocktail bar into an Aspen Ski Lodge. The booths have been transformed into cosy individual ski chalets where you can sit back, relax and enjoy some seasonal favourites, including cheese fondue. Don’t forget to try the spiced mulled cider or warm gluhwein!

Bodega Cantina, Bennett’s Hill

If you simply can’t choose one dish, Bodega Cantina is the perfect place to enjoy a range of South American street food. Try the light bites selection which includes red wine glazed chorizo and jalapeno stuffed peppers. Or try the Christmas buffet menu, which includes house nachos and grilled quesadillas. If there’s room, finish your meal with a warm glass of Rekorderlig Winter Cider.

La Galleria, Ethel Street

If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, visit La Galleria. With a range of freshly prepared dishes, try the succulent steak or one of the comforting spaghetti dishes. The Spaghetti Alla Carbonara is our favourite! If you fancy trying something a little different, go for the Saltimbocca Alla Romana, an escalope of veal topped with parma ham in a white wine, sage and butter sauce.

The Stable, John Bright Street

If you love Pizza, this is the ultimate place to stop for a quick bite to eat. The newly opened restaurant offers over 80 pizzas. Try the Blazing Saddle pizza with slow roasted pulled beef, smoked bacon, caramelised onion, grilled red pepper and mozzarella topped with sour cream and chillies. The Stable also has a selection of pies, all served with herb potatoes, pickled onion and tomato chutney. If you’ve got room for something sweet, try The Nutty Professor hot chocolate!
