Soda brings its refreshing brand of tech to Selfridges Birmingham
Soda has opened refreshingly different tech pop-up in Selfridges Birmingham, showcasing some of the coolest new gadgets and gizmos around.
Soda, which stands for School of the Digital Age, is a tech start-up that curates carefully selected, innovative technology products that are both fun and useful, with prices starting from as little as £10.
Launched last year by 26-year-old Grace Gould, Soda opened its first boutique in Selfridges Oxford Street and has now launched the brand as a pop-up concession on the ground floor at the Bullring department store.
“We’re so excited to launch Soda in Selfridges Birmingham,” she said. “We like to think of ourselves as the truffle hunters of technology so have gathered a range of amazing products, including some that are exclusive in the city that would make great stocking fillers for a child, a gadget for a teen or a cool gift for a tech lover.”
Exclusive-to-store ranges include the Curiscope Virtualiti-Tee – an augmented reality t-shirt available in ages 3-14 that comes with an app. Put on the tee, download the app on your phone and put it on selfie mode, then watch augmented reality images of the body’s internal organs pop up (£24).
Bare Conductive electric paint flashing cards (£15) are another Selfridges exclusive that make the perfect stocking filler. Arty kids with a love for science will love these light-up cards, created by cutting out a template, tracing the circuit with Bare Conductive paint, attach the LED and battery and watch it light up.
Bored of plain white headphones and lanyards? The exclusive Soda Happy-ness Apple headphones (£64) use genuine Apple headphones, which are shipped to Istanbul, where they are weaved by hand to create colourful accessories for iPhones. It’s a fun product that protects the cables and helps to prevent them breaking. It’s also a gift with a conscience – with every purchase a donation is made to a children’s autism foundation. Happy-ness also manufacture customised lanyards (£34) and cables (£52).
Soda’s exclusive collaboration with Fiorucci has produced four colourful phone cases (£30) that depict images from the iconic Italian fashion brand’s archives, while the Chipolo smart key finder with replaceable battery (£19) enables you to find your keys, laptop or phone (even if it is on silent mode). Press the button on the Chipolo and it will find your device within a 10-metre radius with a 92-decibel sound.
For the aesthete in your life, the Lyfe levitating plant holder (£220) is the perfect gift. Part science experiment/part art installation, this magnetic plant holder floats above a wooden base – just add your own plant.
