Rose’s Product of the Week – Shu Uemura Farfallina Lashes
Unless something is seriously, seriously wrong, I can normally be found in a set of lashes. Quite frankly, I spend a lot of time on my make-up and I want people to notice it. But no matter how flawlessly I blend my smoky browns or how carefully I add an eyeliner flick, it’s the lashes that people comment on every time.
So in a hall of so many eyelashes, where do I begin? It’s always with Shu Uemura. Famed for a few things – their Cleansing Oil, the Eyelash Curlers, and their Lashes – there’s one set that takes the crown every time, the Farfallina lash.
This lash is a fail-safe for many because it suits every eye shape. A slightly staggered, mod looking finish, this helps to add a flirty hint of volume and length to any eye make-up. But what really makes these stand out is the colour. Merging black and brown lengths, the Farfallina adds a very life-like depth to the lashes, causing onlookers to question whether you’ve even hit the lash glue at all. There’s none of that synethic shiny black malarkey that comes with the cheaper counterparts.
But what about the excruciating process of getting them on? Follow my top tip – no matter how bizarre it may sound – and you’ll master the art of application in no time. The key is to keep your eyes open. Yes, you heard me, open. Apply a thick layer of liquid liner (purely to cover your tracks in case they go on a little funny), keep your eyes open, and tilt your head backwards, gently dropping the lash onto the liner. Sounds a bit far fetched? Don’t worry. As part of the lash service, Eva, Chandya and Salina offer a complimentary application lesson with each set sold.
Is it your first time at Shu Uemura? You can’t leave without trying the skincare (first RMK, now Shu Uemura? You’ve got me. I’m a total sucker for Japanese skincare). Come along to the counter and quote ‘Shopping in Birmingham’. Once you’ve asked Eva, Chandya or Salina to preen your lashes, you can take away a complimentary skincare sample*. And as for the Farfallinas? Take two pairs in case you want to double up. That’s how J-Lo wears hers.
